The Calgary Police Half Marathon provides a scenic course through southwest neighbourhoods and beautiful pathways around south Glenmore Park and Weaslehead Flats. This is an open course. Racers must be aware of vehicle traffic, cyclists and pedestrians throughout the course. Calgary Police Service officers will be controlling traffic at major intersections.

Check out the course map to see slight changes from last year’s route as we continue to adapt to construction and flood mitigation efforts. Note that the start and finish location has also been adjusted to the southeast of the MRU Recreation Centre:

  • All events, the Half Marathon, 10K and 5K will leave Mount Royal University and run along Mount Royal Gate, continuing on 50th Avenue S.W., then running south on 21 Street S.W.
  • The 5K route will turn around near Lenton Place S.W. and head back to the University.
  • The half marathon and 10K will continue south on 21 Street S.W., zigzagging through the community over to the pathway on the south side of Glenmore Trail S.W., via the open-air pedestrian overpass.
  • The 10K will go through the community of Lakeview until the turnaround point on 66 Avenue S.W., near Legare Drive S.W., and then head back to the University.
  • The half marathon will continue past the 10K turnaround point along the pathway and will then run counter-clockwise around the Glenmore Reservoir and back to the University.
  • Portable washrooms are located throughout the route, at each water station.
  • EMS and St John’s Ambulance will be along the route.
  • Headphones are permitted, but for safety it is recommended only one earbud be used.

Half Marathon

  • No baby jogging strollers, cyclists, rollerblades, support vehicles or pets along the Half Marathon route
  • Water stations are located at the 5 km, 10 km, and 16 km for Half Marathon participants and at the finish line for all racers
  • Every kilometre is marked as is 1 mile out and 1 mile to go
  • CAUTION: The race route narrows in some areas – please take direction from Course Marshals. This is an open course and runners are advised to be aware of vehicle traffic, cyclists and pedestrians.
  • Race route closed at 10:30 a.m. – any remaining participants are kindly asked to move to a safe location along the side of the route. Police will remain on scene until the last person has crossed the finished line

10 km Run

  • No baby jogging strollers, cyclists, rollerblades, support vehicles or pets along the 10 km route
  • Water stations are located at the 5 km mark and at the finish line for all racers
  • Every kilometre is marked
  • Please take direction from Course Marshals. This is an open course and runners are advised to be aware of vehicle traffic, cyclists and pedestrians.
  • EMS and St John’s Ambulance will be along the route

5 km Run & Walk

  • Every kilometre is marked
  • Baby jogging strollers are only be allowed for the 5 km Run & Walk event
  • Please take direction from Course Marshals. This is an open course and runners are advised to be aware of vehicle traffic, cyclists and pedestrians.
  • EMS and St John’s Ambulance will be along the route
