Meet Akeem Haynes, Canadian Olympic Medalist in Men’s Relay at the CPS Half Marathon!
Sunday, April 30 at Mount Royal University
Akeem will be meeting runners at the finish line, signing autographs at the conclusion of the races and is available for photos with event participants at MRU.
Akeem Haynes is a two-time Olympian representing Canada at the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games – earning a Bronze Medal in Men’s Relay in Rio. He graduated from the University of Alabama where he was a three-time All American in his years representing the crimson tide.
In 2015, Akeem became the third fastest Canadian in the 60m event. His time of 6.51 ties him with Donovan Bailey in that category.
Akeem has also written two books: Love, Life & Legacy and his most recent entitled Fear, Faith & Fruition. He also does a great deal of motivational speaking. In November, he was invited to sit on the panel with entrepreneurial mogul Sir Richard Branson of Virgin Mobile, helping youth-at-risk kids with development and personal growth.
He also received the Key to the City of Yellowknife – the first place Akeem called home when he came to Canada.
When asked why he supports the Calgary Police Foundation, recipient of proceeds from the CPS Run event, Akeem says, “in order to create change you have to act on it with a genuine heart. That’s what the Calgary Police Foundation provides. It wants to make a difference and it’s coming from a genuine heart. It’s something I want to get involved with because of that. CPF does so much for those in need.”
